MY JOURNEY OF LEARNING

Phew! finished at long last, I think my poor old brain has worked overtime, but anyhow thanks Donna for the insight of things to come, it was certainly a learning experience and then some. Also a big thankyou to Debbie who has helped me when I became stuck (thanks Debbie, you are a star!)
I particularly liked Flickr, the generator blog which was fun and Wikis. The social networking sites I'm not particularly keen on, probably because its not me but I know my 13 year old granddaughter and her friends are on Bebo all the time and I can see how you can get hooked. It's interesting to see that 'Facebook' which won an award for best social site is actually 'blocked' by UCOL.
The whole exercise has taken up a lot of time but I think it was well worth it, the only thing that I got annoyed and frustrated with was the many logins and passwords setting up accounts, I now have a whole page full of usernames and logins.
Would I do another one? Mmmmm would have to think about that

FREE AUDIO BOOKS

I went into freedigitalcontent and then into Myths and Mysteries, there is some really funny stuff here especially the one about gumboots

PODCASTS

Had a play on this and found a really good site called SirsiDynix Institute, it had a podcast on 'Engaging youth on their own time' It was more geared to a Public Library but a lot of information was also appropriate to an educational library. It talked about how teenagers see a library and how we could make the library easy and friendly for them to use e.g. IM (instant messaging) how the young ones like this because it is quick to use and in real time and will actually add the library to their buddy list because they feel it is safe.
Another one is 'myspace' where once they login they can access the library's databases. Have added it to my netvibes page.

YouTube

This was fun, I can see how you can get hooked onto it. Debbie helped me download a Goodnight Kiwi Ad (remember those) my kids loved them, I think one of them even had a pillowslip with a big "Goodnight Kiwi" on it

Zoho Writer

This was quite good actually the more you practice on it the better and easier it is to use, had some good features that Microsoft Office doesn't have but you are limited in other things like variety of fonts and their sizes but anyhow have tagged it to my del.icio.us favourites so I can access it from home

Technorati

I wasn't that keen on this, found it a bit of a challenge, but put my blog name in and found it was fourth on the list out of over 700, not bad eh! (I'm thinking perhaps the newest ones go to the top of the list)
